Denver Nuggets aquire... Allen Iverson!
Fark.Allen Iverson is currently the NBA's leading scorer. Over his 11 year career so far, he has averaged 28 points per game. He played every game of those 11 years for the Philadelphia 76ers, who drafted him first overall in 1996 above Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Ray Allen and Todd Fuller.
All off-season there were rumoured Iverson trades being negotiated, but he suited up at the start of the season in his familiar #3 Sixers jersey. Then just over a week ago, the media was flooded with fresh gossip, with Iverson officially demanding a trade from the league's bottom team.
Every day after work i have checked the travellers' blogs, then straight to NBA.com to see if he had been traded while i was at work.
The official trade was
Denver acquires Allen Iverson and Ivan McFarlin
Philadelphia acquires Andre Miller, Joe Smith and two 1st round picks in next years draft
Philly had to move iverson, and Miller isn't a bad initial return. Ranked 3rd in the NBA in assists with 9.1 per game, Miller is a fundemental point guard where iverson was not. That helps. Joe Smith was the #1 draft pick in 1995, but that was as good as he ever got. the sixers just want his expiring contract.
But the key for Philly here is the two first round picks. Denver will make the playoffs, so one of these will be late in the first round for sure. But the other may fall higher, and then Philly has its own shitty record-boosted pick. It's tipped to be a hot draft next year, highlighted by Greg Oden and some other dude. Write this season off, but get ready for a new era of Philly bball.
Denver now has a hot starting five on paper
C - Marcus Camby
PF - Kenyon Martin
SF - Carmelo Anthony
SG - JR Smith
PG - Allen Iverson
They could start iverson at SG and promote Earl Boykins into the starting line up at the point.
The main problem with this is that their average backcourt height is 5'8":)
Denver is more explosive on offense now than really explosive shit.
Check it out
